» AVALUA’s reputation in public projects and social involvement

AVALUA’s activities are not limited just to the development of its work and commercial aims. We try to contribute solutions and approaches to society to avoid the deterioration of both people’s quality of life and the environment, as far as conditions caused by sound pollution are concerned.

For that reason we carry out a lot of public work, which is unrewarding from an economic perspective but receives highly rewarding social recognition. This is because we contribute to the improvement of the environment with opinions and actions that promote acoustically sustainable development.

This development requires especially changes in production methods and of consumption patterns, apart from changes in individual and social behaviour patterns. In this way, acoustic sustainability would be part of a social development model that aims to make society aware of the benefits of always choosing the item, attitude, habit, etc, with the least acoustic impact possible from among the options that they have at their disposal.

A large part of the solution to the problem is social solidarity, the business effort for technological action, linked to the political decision to promote and encourage the application of education, technical, fiscal and legal measures. Because of all of this, one of the tasks that we consider fundamental to our activity is that of the investigation and popularisation of technology and science in the media, and teaching in various educational fields.

Investigations that we carry out continuously (which deal with various challenges by means of the required technical demands) demand a constant effort to analyse and diagnose the various problematic conditions due to noise that we come up against.

The teaching that we carry out includes:

  • first of all, at the level of internal training for our staff;
  • secondly, at an external and general level, as in the case of training given since 1999 in the Universitat de les Illes Balears in the Master de Calidad y Gestión empresarial del Medio Ambiente de la Cátedra Sa Nostra – UNESCO;
  • training for the Conselleria de Educació i Cultura of the Govern de les Illes Balears;
  • training courses specialising in acoustics directed towards professional training (Formación Profesional) teaching staff.

We also continuously carry out specific courses, lectures and technical days in professional colleges, such as the Col•legi Oficial d’Enginyers Industrials de Balears and the Col•legi d’Enginyers Tècnics Industrials de les Illes Balears.

Because we believe that popularisation is very important, we often participate in technical and scientific television programmes (TV Mallorca, IB3). We are regular radio participants (Cadena SER - Mallorca, ONA Mallorca), addressing aspects of environmental subject matter, as well as regularly publishing specialised articles in the print media (Diari de Balears) and on specialised internet forums.

We also participate in engineering conferences, contributing sector-specific papers:

  • III Congrés d’Enginyeria i Cultura Catalana: Tecnologia, Territori i Societat (Universitat de les Illes Balears, Palma; 4, 5 and 6 December 2008).
  • Paper title: LA NECESSITAT DE COMPTAR AMB UNES ACURADES I EFICIENTS EINES DE GESTIÓ DE LA CONTAMINACIÓ ACÚSTICA. CONSEQÜÈNCIES TÈCNIQUES, ECONÒMIQUES I SOCIALS.

We have participated in every ecological fair held at the Illes Balears exhibition site to date (2003 and 2005), with our own stand and active participation in the series of talks.

We have actively collaborated in state and regional legislative processes on the subject, always delivering everything expected of us, our experience and technical knowledge, with the benefit of real-life experience.

In terms of AVALUA's direction, we believe that we must continue to be proactive in the pursuit of excellence. Each and every one of us is obliged to contribute to the improvement of the acoustic quality of our environment, fostering the welfare of society as a whole.
